Automatic Transmissions that fit a 360
Hi, I have a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba, and I'd like to do away with the three speed transmission it has. I'm looking for a nice, clean, easy swap for like a 5 speed transmission to help it move herself a little bit better in her bad zone. She jumps from 0-35 MPH without me hardly noticing, but past that and until 60 MPH she's kinda sluggish. I'd prefer used since I'm just a kid with a love of cars, and only a summer job. Any resources or tips you can give would be most appreciated.

You'll want a 518A out of a full size van. It'll give you 3 speeds and the OD (4 speeds basically). If you want a 5 speed auto, you'll be looking at some of the newer vehicles I think 545re is one. There is a local guy to me selling one, I think he wanted $600 for it. Plus you'll need the computer and wiring for it.
You said that the car is sluggish between 35 and 60. What gear(s) are you in? What RPM are you shifting at? What is your rear axle gear ratio? Is there any perfomance modifications done to the motor? When was the clutch replaced?

78D200 I think he has an auto no clutch.
Cordoba 77, it seems to me you have a tuning issue. You should have more power just when you are losing it

These terms contradict each other. easy and a five speed in a Cordoba do not go together. It can be done but it ain't no easy swap. Just an opinion. Do you know just what torque converter is in it now? Could it be a lock up unit not locking?

I read "3 speed" and thought manual.
518A would be your best bet if you want to get a 4th gear or you could install an OD unit on the back end of the 727.
You might want to look at what the fluid looks/smells like, adjust the bands (normal maintance items) before going to a completely different tranny.
