Dialing in new motor, help please

So I just finished breaking in a '69 Satellite with a rebuilt 383 and I was wondering if there were any guides/tips/procedures to perfectly dialing in the car's timing and jetting the carb.

I'm from northeast Ohio and would also like to know if anyone knows of any reputable dyno shops to tune at around here.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Welcome to the board.

Not sure if the term "perfectly" is even applicable.
Dyno tuning may or may not help, a lot of factors involved.

Basic stuff, is to tune the timing and A/F mixture by ear, drive the car "normally" for a while and then read the spark plugs. Adjust as necessary.

here is one tip. if the cap has a vent hole plug it with JB-weld. that will keep the moisture out. ill bet in Ohio you will need it. i know in kansas that mod made my caps last 3-5 yers. in steed of 1 year

If you want to pay for dyno time, AND find a good shop it might be worth the money.

On the other hand, you can now buy several different brands of wideband O2 sensor setups. I'm now running EFI, but I bought an Innovate wideband setup off 'th Bay for around 140.00 US

Bear in mind I'm an "old guy." I'm 65, so once in awhile, I can learn a new trick.

setting a carb takes time. make only small changes. and give it time, dont make changes in an hour or two. drive it in different ways over a day or two. on AFBs or AVSs change only the jet OR rod at one time. and start with the jets. .003" can be felt if you try. dont forget .003" on a .060" jet is less change than .003" on a.090" jet. i do have a computer program to cal any combo of changes. but it is lost in some main frame of my sons. i should be getting it in a few weeks. but the instruction set i started righting is not done yet.
