Electrical headache
Proud owner of a 69 roadrunner with 72 HP 440.
The deal:
Replaced battery. Car was checked, alt was good, no draws, but test said
battery was bad. This was around two weeks ago.
Since then:
1. Car has been driven on and off. No problems. Drove around a half an hour last night.
2. Today, turn the key, nothing. No clicks or ticks or anything. Dome light works, but headlights do not.
3. Disconnect the battery, hook up charger, quickly goes to "charged' on the meter.
4. Walk to front of car, gently "tap" wires to starter.
5. The above 1-4 steps took all of five minutes.
6. Reconnect the battery, car starts immediately.
Ok, what's the deal?
1. There is no way the battery charged in 5 minutes.
2. What is the possible relationship between me tapping the wires to stater and the headlights?
3. When the car started and I turned the headlights on, they took a second or two to come on. They did not come on immediately like they are supposed to.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance,
-Sam

People will lecture you on making sure all connections are clean an tight. On a 12v dc system this cant be stressed enough. Voltage should be thought of as "pressure". At 12v its hard to overcome the slightest resistance [think corrosion],at 120v you would not notice the problem as much. People also overlook the ground or negative. Check them also. Do you still have the ground strap from your block to the chassis? Often corroded and overlooked. Ma Mopar is cheap and wouldnt have put one there unless absolutely neccessary. Good luck. Electrician for 20 years. The delay on the headlights also makes me think ground.
