help
Im not certain about them being retro fitted, but a small block head will not fit on a magnum block...if they did, i wouldnt be running the junk stock heads on the Ram....and the aftermarket heads wouldnt be so expensive.
i think that as for retro fitting, it would be more work than it is worth, unless you know someone who works at/runs a machine shop, and even then, im not sure that its worth the hassle, or possible.

the oiling is different between the years. magnum motors oil through the pushrods to the rockers. i am pretty sure i read somewhere the you can put magnum heads on a la block if you use jeep lifters that oil up the pushrods. don't quote me on that though. i do know that something is different about the way it oils.not sure that old style heads would bolt to new style block

magnum head swap
magnum heads will fit on an early block, but not the other way around. its true the mpfi engines (magnum engines) oil thru the pusrods to a pedestal mount rocker. intake bolt patterns are also different. timing covers are different, cams are different lengths, etc. also, you will have trouble finding pulleys to run your old v belt stuff, and the w/p rotates in the opposite direction on mpfi engines. i agree that finding another carb 360 would be better. unless you have a late donor truck, it could be hard to find all the parts you need to make it all work. a machine shop put magnum heads on an early block back when mpfi was new, in an article in the old (now out of print) chrysler power magazine, think the shop was called TICO. anyone remember this? it was a mild performance build that made around 405 horse.
