Just curious about 383's

I Just picked up a very clean, prepped and painted 67 383 block bored .40 over. Plan to build a budget performer. If I were to use a factory forged 383 crank, can the motor still be stroked? What would be a good solid way to build withour braking the bank?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Stroked means changing the crank, rods, pistons. So, no, you cannot use the crank. Run it as is.

what are your plans for the motor?

alloy heads , good cam , inlet manifold , 750 carb , after market ignition & dizzy , higher compression pistons , 1 7/8" 4 into 1 headers , stall converter if auto , good air cleaner , good timing chain , lightweight fan . + all the other stuff you need like rings , bearings , gaskets , machining ect ect .

383 are good, 400s are a better performer (not factory form) with a 383 forged crank higher comp pistons, etc etc,,,
a good cam, edel rpm manifold is a good street choice manifold, port the heads what comp ratio are you running know do you know? or can find out?
whats breaking the bank? my bank may be a bit smaller than yours, how much can you sink into it?

Thanks for the recent input. I now have a line on a factory forged crank, rods and cast pistons from a 383 HP motor from a 69 Road Runner. According to my research, I should be able to get a compression ratio of around 10-1 if I had factory heads. I am looking at probably going with 440 Source Stealth or possibly Edelbrock heads. Would this contribute to a further gain in compression and power? Sound realistic? Any further input would be appreciated.

Deadkelly is the resident 383 expert [If you can understand him!]! I dont know about your budget, but I would buy forged pistons, JMHO. A set of forged pistons matched to the "cc" volume of your heads will put you where you want to be, and end up with a great all-around combination!
