lacking power

my mechanic called me today to tell me my car is finished.

but he said it's lacking power ( no ***** ) were his words, he said it may be due to the fact that it's been sitting around for roughly a year and the carb may need to be replaced.

he said i could try and run it a bit to see if it corrects it's self and if that dsnt work replace the carb.

are these good idea's or does it sound like it could be somthing else ?

Lack of power is a general term. You really need to get into it and drive it. Is it lacking power from a dead stop? Just at higher speeds? What else is it doing when this happens? Are there any noises? Etc, Etc, Etc.

Damn. That sucks.... wish we had snow where I am.

But I did find out what he lent by lacking power. When you hit the gas the car revs up really slow and god pretty much no where. Had my foot all the way to the floor and and was barley Crawling. I was its the timing. And the spark plug wires were put on in the wrong.

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2... New plugs, and gas. And check the timing, should be set at about 36, thats what my car runs good with

I would start with a compression test. If you have decent squeeze then do the plugs and wires and get a rebuild kit for the carb. Most carb rebuild kits come with instructions and a little gauge to set float depth and such. They make it pretty easy.
