a little help with figuring out parts I need?
Sorry to bother again,
You guys are a huge help. Basically this is what I am trying to figure out. So my Charger has the 78 truck 440, soon to be identified tranny, and 12 bolt axle (waiting on responses, think its a 9.25?), and I am trying to figure out how to determine what parts I need. I know how to figure it out if i had the standard stuff (stock 318 with matching tranny, etc) but how do I figure out what kind of parts I use with this mix and match?
I need to get a radiator, driveshaft, automatic shifter w/ linkage, and a few other things. Ill get some pics up soon.

If your car has an automatic, it will be a 727, nothing else came behind the 440. The radiator is simple, pretty much any radiator from a late 60's-early 70's car will fit. Look for old police cars, they have the best ones, and are usually easy to find in wrecking yards. You'll have harder luck finding the drive shaft, but you should be able to get a drive shaft made pretty easily. Find a junkyard drive shaft with the slip yoke which fits on your tranny, and with the correct size u-joint for your differential. Take this to a drive line shop. If you are lucky, it will be longer than the drive shaft which fits your car, so all they'll have to do is cut it down and balance it. If it's too short, they'll just cut off the yokes at either end, and weld them to a new shaft. The proper shifter can be found on eBay or some other place, if you lift up the carpet you should be able to find indentations where the bolt holes should go. You'll probably need to get the center console to go with the shifter. Another alternative is a Hurst or B&M shifter which uses a cable instead of linkage.

Attached is a list of the rear ends.
Unless there's a strange tail on the trany, the drive shafts should be interchangeable. Sorry, no guarantee.
If you plan on "working" the motor, spring for a good NEW radiator. Perferably a 4 row aluminum job. Worked 440s like to run hot. Mine was an investmen, but I rarely have to worry about over heating anymore. Don't forget a GOOD fan, spacers and shroud. (Sorry, the spacers will be trail and error.)
There are plenty of aftermarket shifters out there. Go through the Summit or JEGS catalog and see what tickles your fancy. I'm using a old style Hurst ratchet shifter and it's bomb proof, but I don't think it's made anymore.
Hope that helped.
