I am in the process of rebuilding my magnum 360. I have a goal horsepower of 350-400. It is in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 with a 46re transmission and 44a rear end. All wheel drive with dana 30 front. Was thinking about a stroker kit, but the only one I can find is a 408 stroker and I think that may be a little much for stock drivetrain to handle. Is there a smaller stroker kit that will get me to my target hp? for the 408, does the block need to be notched? Any advice or guidance how to get where I want is greatly appreciated!

 

Welcome. You should be able to reach your goal with 360 cubes no problem. Have a look at Comp Cams Camquest6 program, put in some numbers and see what you come up with. If you look up some of the 360 crate engines and see what parts they use you'll see how easy it is to get 350hp, and 400 is just a camshaft away.

My thoughts on small blocks are magnum= EFI, LA= carb. Stroker= 400-500hp carb. If I had your vehicle, not a muscle car looking for lower E.T.s, I'd take my stroker money and look at the Hughes/Edelbrock EFI manifold kit. Electronics and computer upgrades are most likely needed and drive line improvements. 4x4 and EFI go hand in hand. If your thinking all out then you'll want the RH trans and dump some of the computer control.
