over heating 413....HELP
Im almost at wits end... I built up a 413 for my 56 dodge car.. I took a plain jane 413 out of a early new yorker.. ran nice.. I bored it .060, put in a road runner cam, put on a couple of progresive 4Bbs, put on 69 440 heads and the new style road runner exaust manifolds.. I used the radiator out of the NY where the engine came from and cooled just fine.. other than that I did nothing different..IKve tried three alluminum radiators, a fresh rechored radiator off a 383, used 5 blade fan, 160 thermostate ( 3 of them), Im running at idle 210-220, fast idle of 2000 rpms, Im running about the same.. I just cant cool it down no matter what I do,,,the timing is at 15 degrees where it is supposed to be, havent taken it out on the road, seems more rpms I give it, hotter it gets,, tried a 18" mark 8 lincoln electric pusher fan..nothing I do makes it cool..Ive done lot of these 413 and 440s and had this once before,,, got her too hot and burnt it up down the road.. so never did figure out why it ran so hot.. anyway,, I need some advice,,, is the .060 too much for a 413? did the440 heads do this? I used steel headgaskets, is that a problem? I replaced the water pump three times, give me some advice I can work with boys,, Ive done all the simple things I think... please email me at mel@moparmel.com

Welcome to the forum.
The one thing to keep in mind is the date of some of these posts. The one you are replying to is a year old with no activity. Just check the date in the upper left corner. It's what we like to call a dead thread.

Sometimes its a good thing that someone does bring up an old post. you never know when someone coming on here doesn't feel like looking around or even asking a question. This way here it is easier for them and they may come back again.

also, make sure the ports aren't interrupted by the head you put on. You'll have more than cooling problems.....I think....
