Removal of in-tank fuel filter
#4
Not sure why you would want to remove the fitting to get to the fuel filter? If you want to remove the fuel float/pick-up which has the filter attached to the end (more like a screen than a filter) you need to turn the inner ring counter clockwise, try using a flat bladed screw driver, drift or punch! The whole unit comes out as one!

You can buy a special spanner wrench to remove the lock ring that is holding your sending unit in place. See Year One or other suppliers. I used a large flat bladed screwdriver, but my tank was already out and empty.
To remove that style crimped clamp, you will have to cut it off. Those are little special clamps that ALSO require a special tool to install.

well, i used the screwdriver method and she came right apart. Great success. the pickup tube was rusty as hell and i was barely getting any gas out of it. It is currently soaking with pb blaster to see if it is salvageable. Any ideas on where I could find a new sending unit float? mine has a hole in it.

Depends on application, but you can look at www.vansauto.com for a whole new sending unit, maybe try www.kanter.com, Year One (try this direct link) http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...ain2.asp?cat=1
Also saw this on another forum:
Go to a Ford dealer and ask for COAZ-9202-B. paid around $3 each from a ford dealer. Same exact part, use part number above.
