Removing exhaust manifold

Need to replace a exhaust maifold on my 56 Dodge 270 cu. V/8. Any surefire way of insuring not breaking off bolts? I've done this before but it's always a hold your breath deal. Thanks, Jeeman04

Lots of penetrating oil, let it soak forever!

If there is a way to apply heat to the head, it would help to draw the penetrating oil all the way in. Lots of time, and lotsa luck. I ALWAYS assume I'll break one, so make sure you have plan "B" standing by!

i've heard of an old trick
melt candle wax into the bolt
then tap the bolt
the wax will loosen it up

Candle wax works well. But the key is to get the bottom of the bolt hot enough to get the "wicking"effect to draw the wax, or penetrant all the way down. Like sweating a pipe.
