rusty gas tank?
Well, the truck sat for too long and now there is rust on the inside of the gas tank. I saw a procedure on one of the saturday car/truck shows where they put a solution in the tank that took the rust out, then they put in something that coated the inside. Has anyone tried this? Would it be cheaper or more practical to just go with a plastic tank? or just go to a fuel cell?

I've seen kits for the tank dip and sealant at several retailers both online and at brick and mortar stores. You could also contact a radiator shop and they can chemically boil it out for you.
I was in the same boat not long ago with my Belvedere.
The problem with dipping your tank? You might find it has holes in it. Then you are out the cost of the dip or chemicals (not to mention they seemed pretty nasty; I wouldn't use them at home, personally, because we have a well and I don't want that in MY drinking water)...and then have to replace the gas tank anyway.
After alot of research and thinking, I just replaced the tank. Seemed more time expedient and less (potentially) outlay in the end. So now I have a tank that should last another 40 years and no worries!

I've used the coatings with success. The most important thing is to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and all will be fine. This is only if you cannot get a new tank. Don't do the fuel cell thing. the gas filler will be a pain in the ***, and will turn off future buyers.
