Simple Tranny Question

A904.... Will it work on an LA series 360? Keep in mind I'm not trying to find a tranny to abuse.

Description is:
"1977 Chrysler Plymouth Pass. Transmission A.T., 6-225, A904, Std Duty"

Thanks for any feedback

NOPE. In the older A904/ 727 transmissions (ignoring the newer overdrive variations)

there are, in the 60's and later engines, SIX bellhousing configurations.

A 904 and 727, for SLANT SIX ONLY (that's 2)

A 904 and 727, for SMALL BLOCK ( 2 more)

A 904 and 727 for BIG BLOCK (six total)

A 904/ 727 easy to tell apart.

A 904 has straight sided pan edges, with one corner cut off

727 has a rounded bulged on the passenger side of pan edge

Engine bell fit is more difficult, might be diagrams on th' www

and sure enough, Gargoile comes up with:

So my understanding is I need to go for a 727. Fit won't be an issue as I'm having the firewall and tranny tunnel built to fit.

No, you can use either a 904 or 727, but it has to fit your block.

You will need to find a transmission that will fit the block, and the 225/6 won't. You need the la small block unit, but you don't need a 904 so get what you can find for a good price. Both will live behind your 360. You should be able to find one in an older 80's truck or van in local junk yards or classifieds. I am guessing you are asking because you have found the /6 unit for sale. Make sure the torque converter is weighted the same as the motor. i.e. internal or external ballance.
