Stalling
I have a 1970 Coronet and it started out with a 318 but the previous owner put a 383 in it. The engine is from a mid 60's mopar i think. I have alot of trouble getting it started even when its warm. Its hard starting ever time. But once i get it going it almost always stalls when i put it in reverse. If i put it in drive its fine but reverse always stalls after I start it. I was told from a couple mopar people that I might need a spacer between my intake manifold and the edelbrock 600 series carb. Does anyone have advice.

Its hard to tell without looking at it. I would check the basics, Is the idle speed set too low? Are there any vacuum leaks like power brake line or booster or maybe the pcv valve? Does the vehicle have points and if so are they set correctly or maybe worn out? Is the carburetor flooding or [just the opposite] is the carburetor not getting enough fuel pressure from the fuel pump?
