Torsion bar

Hi,
does anyone have any info on how to remove the torsion bars on a 1969 A body?
Any tricks or special tools?
Thanks

Raise the vehicle, support by frame, back off the adjuster on the lower control arm, count no. of turns to rest if reusing old bar, remove retainer in rear of trans crossmember.Slide the boot forwards. I unbolt the shock to allow for the lower control arm to be moved so the hex end in the arm wont have any tension on it. There is a service tool that grabs the bar allowing for a hammer blow on the handle of tool towards the rear of car. I have had luck with a large pair of vicegrips a with a rag wrapped around the bar to prevent maring. If you are not worried about saving the bar, a pipe wrench will lock on the bar and provide a surface to strike against. Hopefully they were well greasd when installed. Good Luck!

You back off the tension bolt that is in the bottom of the lower control arms. Remove the retaining clips at the back of the torsion bars. The proper way at that point is to use the Chrysler special tool or equivalent to clamp onto the bar and use a hammer to drive the bar out of the hole. You use the hammer to hit on the clamp that is on clamped to the bar. I have seen it done with large vice grips attached to the bar but I do not recommend that because it puts gouges in the bar which can lead to a weak spot and potential breakage.

Also if you are re using them do not mix up the bars side to side as this will also weaken them and could lease to breakage.
