valve train problems 318

Heres what i have. I recently pulled the 318 out of my 1991 dodge ram. I decided to go with a carb instead of throttle body. I went with comp cams 20-612-9 and the compliant valve springs. I left everything else stock on the motor as far as rocker arms, lifters, push rods, etc. keep in mind this is a roller motor. i got it all together and it bent one of my pushrods and pushed it thru the rocker arm. does anyone no my problem??? thanks

Offhand, I'd guess that either you somehow got the one pushrod out of place, or you are having "coil bind" problems

sounds like u got coil binding problems a lot of big lift cams require head work "spring seat "
needs to be machined
i had this prob on a set of 360 heads didnt do the type of damage u ended up with but they made noise "clicking" i could see the springs bind with car off and valve cover off

I doubt that it's coil bind, most likely valve retainer contacting the valve guide. The 318 cams were .390", .420" tops on the newer ones like yours. I've measured a ton of these and .450" at best anything larger like your .480" and you'll hit. Was the damaged one an exhaust? We just did my son's a couple of days ago and he took off .130" to accomodate a positive seal and .484" lift.

If you have magnum rockers it will have even more lift than the advertised with 1.5's.

Usually a push rods are to long will do that. Are you reusing your stock PR with the new cam? And what heads and rockers are you using?
