1967 383 Identification
1967 383 Identification
Hi, I am trying to help my uncle identify his 1967 383 b block more precisely. It has the normal markings we can figure out. It has on the starter side of the block 246813012 which the 2468130 translates to 383 b block. The part we can not figure out on this is the 12 at the end. Also on the right bank cylinder deck it has c383 which we know stands for 1967 383. The one we do not is underneath that it has 715 stamped and can not find anything on that also. It also just has a 7 stamped on the left bank. We found the date of manufacture which is June 6th of 1966. It also has other various markings like N + B stamped in it that we can not figure out. If anyone has any information about these stampings, please help us out. We have searched the internet for hours trying to figure these stamps out and still find nothing. Thanks in advance.

casting numbers
I just bought my first and second mopars, always been a chevy guy. My 67 Satellite has a 383 in it with the same block casting # yours has except after the 130 it appears to have -10. I haven't looked for any other numbers except I did find a 9-66 or 10-66 (don't remember which) that I assume is the casting date.

some times the blocks was cast well ahead of putting in frames, it has been said this was to let the castings set in weather to season. so the machining was stable. i my self do not know this is so, for sure. but being a machinist this sounds like it could be. but i have NOT machined large iron casting. i did talk to an OLD chrysler parts man. he said that the bare casting had one part no, maybe the casting no? and after each operation the part no changed. i think this might mean that the casing no is ONLY a casting no. but how that would cascade down i have no way of knowing. could one casting no end up as two diff part no,s? i do NOT know
