1978 360 egr

Hi, this motor is in a b300 camper.

The EGR is connected to the vacuum regulator and that in turn connects to the vacuum manifold. I believe this correct, but can I just connect the EGR to the timed port on the intake as well....?

The emissions have been partially disconnected by a previous owner....

I am thinking that the pre-ignition I am experiencing may be the EGR, it checks out fine but I do not think it is getting a proper vacuum to initiate...

thanks!!!
