Not familiar with small blocks, but I do believe 550-600 HP is for a stock block,They have thin cylinder walls and are prone to crack, also use main studs and a girdle for NOS. I am sure you will get more opinions,so be patient for replies.

HP is directly proportional to $$$$$$$ and the skill of the builder !

My 340 rollor motor with .534 lift roller cam produced 435 horses. In my Dart it would smoke the tires all day long. You will need a forged crank and forged pistons to shoot to it along with the before mentioned billet mains and girdle. I wouldn't shoot nitrous to your 340...get you a 360 and stroke it out to a 408 and shoot some nitrous to it. Save the 340.

to the best of my knowledge, it entailes filling the water jackets with a cement like material to strengthen the block.

for obvious reasons, the block is only a race block now.

i believe that modifying of the heads must also occur to allow the coolant to flow in there.
