340 intake swap
Great fireworks last night! Hope everyone got home safe. On to my questions. Will a stock cast iron intake from a '73 340 cause any problems on my '69 340? Also, I just received a Torker II and am trying to decide what kind of performance/driveability I want. The engine is a '69 340,.060 over, worked x heads, purple shaft cam, flat top pistons, headers, etc. in a '68 Coronet 500 convertible. Automatic w/ 3.55 rear end. Thank you in advance for your thoughts on this.

Yes you should be able to swap the cast iron intake between the two motors. With how you have the motor built, I would sugest going with the Torker II intake but that also depends heavily on how you plan on driving the vehicle.

I'm not sure that a Torker II would be a good combo in that heavy car. These manifolds were not "named" correctly as they most certainly are NOT a "torque" manifold. I believe the factory manifold would have more bottom end and mid range for a heavy car
Incidently, I "did" this a very long time ago. My favorite car I ever owned was a 70 sixpack RR, but in the "first" gas crunch of the early '70's I swapped a low miles 340 into the car. This was a stock 71 high compression 340, with headers, and with the 3.54, 4 speed and "hang on" aftermarket A/C that engine gave me better than 17 mpg. In my opinion, Ma really screwed up by not developing the 340 into a broader base. The 340/ B body combo would have competed very favorably against a SB 327/350 Chevelle, for example.

Thanks again to both of you. Don't plan on street racing anymore but still would like to get going when I push the fun pedal. The exhaust system runs through glasspacks into Hemi resonator mufflers into Mopar tips. Sounds very good. Used to run an Offy dual plane w/ 2-4s but hard to keep tuned and VERY hard on fuel. Guess I'll hang on to the Torker for now. Next question is carb. Don't think I need more than the AVS I have.

Sorry missed about the RPM. My research on this site and some other Mopar sites is that I should keep my money for other things as my cast intake performs pretty well for an old dog. Ma Mopar knew what she was doing!

With what you discribed, I'd go with the stock intake as well. The Torker II (made by Edlebrock IIRC) is a mid to high range RPM intake and really only good for those to race the vehicles down the strip.
As far as a carb goes, I'd look at ~650cfm carb with a fat fuel line.

I have a Carter AVS I rebuilt last year. From what I learned it's the carb I need. Fat fuel line makes sense. Thanks. Just need to get the elec. system sorted out as to why it won't fire. Heading out into the heat now to start troubleshooting.
