383 build

1968 chrysler newport 383.

looking at gaining a bit more power but not going crazy as i daily drive this thing 2-3 days a week.

currently running:
-edelbrock performer intake
-holley 4150 carb (650cfm)
-dual 2.5" exhaust

was thinging of doing a mild cam and a set of heads.
probably go edelbrock performer heads and cam....

have been told by "experts" around edmonton that say if i port and polish my existing heads and just add a cam i would gain about the same amount....

any thoughts from mopar guys on what would be the best option for gains for my money?

thanks

Thats a good question. I'd like to see the answer to that. I would like to go to the aluminum head so that I could increase compression if possible. Aluminum heads can take at least about a .5 compression boost without detonation than iron heads, maybe more. But iron heads can be done very cheap. Up to you.

What does your budget look like and/ or how much power do you want to make?

i would start with a 3 angle valve job plus port and polishing the heads and port matching the intake runners to the heads as well as some headers that are port matched to the heads as well. then a good cam to go with it. and then make sure you are running the correct size carb for the mods you make too small or too big can result in power loss.

yes most of the machine shops if they do enough performance work will know what you want. and the best way to figure out what carb would work best would be to take it down to a dyno shop and have the engine dynoed they should beable to help you find a carb that works and give you plenty of power.
