383 RB mod? Am I thinking wrong?

Hi y'all, new guy here. I've lurked for YEARS, but I think I've got a legit question and I'd love to learn even more from y'all than I already have over the years. So here goes...

I've come across a 1959 383 RB and 727 combo at a reasonable price. It's a pretty rare two-year only engine, and I'll probably never see another. I've ALSO got a 413 truck engine with a bad block. If I'm not mistaken, the 413 truck engine had a forged 440 crankshaft. I could be wrong here, so please don't beat me up too much. I'm wondering about swapping the 440 (413) crankshaft into the 383 RB. Would there be any gain? Any benefit? Issues? Keep in mind, the 383 RB has a smaller bore than the 383 B, but an already longer stroke. I'm just wondering if I'd be pissing into the wind or if I'd be accomplishing an interesting engine mod. Thanks everyone in advance!

I'll just be the Devil's Advocate here (please don't beat me up either!) but it seems that you're not interested in anything with numbers matching, etc., so why would you want to increase the displacement in a limited production 383 block? If it's going to be something other than stock in the first place, why not just go with a 440 and be done. The 440 is a proven platform and will deliver gobs of power and all around performance. Then, should anything ever happen to the engine, you're not dealing with an odd ball configuration. That's just my two cents!

Sure. I'll just go drop a couple grand on a 440 when I've got a 383 just sitting here that nobody's interested in... Good thinking!

The crankshaft will fit but check your rear flange "stick out" as it compares to the old one.

Oh, and lose the sarcasm, 68Runner gave you his opinion which you asked for.

The "opinion" given had nothing to do with the question asked. No kidding, the 440 is an awesome engine. Again, not what I was asking. "Go buy a... instead" is not an appropriate reply when someone is asking about modding something they already have on-hand. Never asked which would be better, or "should I just go drop a couple grand on a 440", because that's not an option for me. Guess this forum is full of folks who have enough money to "just go buy" whatever rather than trying to turn what they've got into something substantial. I'm out. Y'all can have your deep-pockets forum. I'll go find another. Peace.

Wow, if you've been lurking for years you should know this is by no means a "deep pockets" Forum.

Good Bye.

Guys -

That's the beauty of the Internet; if you don't like the answers you get from one place, there's always another that will tell you what you want to hear.

Doesn't the 383RB have a 3.75 stroke same as the 413/426/440 so I see no point to the question.
