413 fuel pump issue

413 fuel pump issue

I have just replaced my fuel pump on my 413 old one had a small leak the replacement was a carter but it has way to much pressure petrol comes out from everywhere on the carb even wen turned off I go to disconnect the hose from the carb its got hugh pressure on it ,floods the carb all the time the old pump run at 5 psi I put the old one back on and its fine the shop who sold it to me say its a 5 psi pump is it faulty should I demand another pump appreciate your input

if i remember right the pressure is controlled by the spring inside the pump. you my have racing pump? i stopped using mech pumps a LONG time ago. course i dont engines with carbs now days. i had a carter WGD 2 bbl, that would loose fuel. and i would have to crank and crank. a carter electric pump fixed the starter wearing out. i set up a override switch to fill the carb BEFORE cranking. and a good theft stop.

Send it back as defective !!!!! Even a racing pump shouldn't go over 7-8 PSI it is the volume !
