Today I purchased a 1967 Charger with its 426 Hemi engine on an engine stand. I plan on transporting the car on a flatbed to my garage about ten miles away.
I was looking at the 426 engine today and don't see any "engine brackets" on the engine. I understand that at the factory these engines were mounted onto the cradle and lifted up into the engine bay.
I was thinking of leaving it on the engine stand and lifting both the engine and stand onto my trailer or pickup bed. Or remove the engine from the stand and just lay it on a few tires in my pick-up truck.
But I still don't like the locations of where I can bolt the chains on the engine safely , while using the cherry picker.
Any ideas from someone that has transported a hemi engine are appreciated.
Look up DIY Wooden Engine Cradle to make a simple box that the oil pan rail can sit on with two long pieces across the front and back to stop tipping. Ratchet straps around the top and your cheap and stable.
Thank you Dan, Iowan and Skwerly, I had read in one of my Chilton books that the Hemi should be raised with straps. I do have the tires to set in the bed of my pick-up that I had planned to rest the engine onto for the drive to my garage. I will post some photos after I move the beast! Thank you all again. ECS Automotive Concepts has a bracket they sell on Ebay ($31) that they say was originally on the engine block at the factory(right rear and keft front) but that these were removed after the engine was installed. The front bracket would be in the way of the optional power sterring unit, so it was removed after installtion. Sometime the rear bracket was left in place(see photo). Any comments on using two brackets as ECS suggests? I called them and spoke with them.
