440 Block - New Main Bearing Caps

My builder 440 came with no main caps. No problem, get the billet steel caps from 440Source, right? Align bore/hone, check crank-cam distance, if that's out of spec, I need another block?

My machinist suggested I just get another short block with the factory mains and we just check it and go with that.

I've never been through an align-bore ordeal, having done in the past what my machinist is now suggesting.

Me, I'd like to go ahead with new main caps. Not sure it's money well-spent, though.

Thoughts?

Crack and sonic test would decide for me before moving on. If cam to crank distance decreases shorter timing chain sets are available.
