Talking 440 question?????

I know the mid 70s 440's have low hp ratings but i need a dependable motor to mock up my ride and ive found a few low mile 440 n tranny combos outta rv's for 500-1200 range.
so...what kinda performance upgrade would i get6 if i swapped to a slightly bigger cam...intake n carb and ignition system " dist,,,plugs...wires...msd 6al box" ??? Tnx, RR

The later 70 440's actually had STRONGER blocks than earlier ones.
The weak points where the cast crank and the heads (IIRC).
The weaker crank and lower compression ratios were the issues.

Still with the right components, 500 HP should be do-able and safe.

Guys here can give you more specific details.

"motorhomes."

If you are talking about the "van nose" type RVs you are probably fine

If you are talking about the huge moving boxes (Class A), the engine may be a "heavy truck" engine and neither the heads, intake, or transmission will be much good. The "high mount" water pump which bolts to the front of the heads is what you want to stay away from. If you are going to put aftermarket / ported heads on, then that is not an issue. But the heavy motorhomes tend to use oddball transmissions which aren't going to help you.
