86 Dodge d150 custom exhaust leak

Hi guys just picked up this truck off craigslist and I Love it. 318 5.2L - torqueflight 727 auto

I hate the smell of exhaust coming in the cab though

Took it to the muffler shop today and they went through the stock exhaust setup and welded all leaks.

He had once place of concern he showed me while truck was still up

Pardon my terminology but he called it a smog tube. For orientation purposes we are under the truck looking straight up at passenger side exhaust manifold.

Anyways, he said he could weld it but I did not want to do it that way in case I ever wanted to overhaul the engine.

He said it is leaking right there where the smog tube meets the back of the exhaust manifold.

How do you guys think I should tackle this? I cant stand the smell in the cab and clean air is paramount.

I do not mind putting on headers if that would be the easy fix I would just want to know which brand would go on with zero modifications. I.E. Smaller starter, grinding, ect

Thanks in advance

The leak I want to repair or fix is the metal portion of the smog tube that is connected to the manifold. Its leaking where the nut portion is, all metal. Forgive me if I interprted wrong but the air pump and check valve is on top front of the engine I believe? While part of the system itself, is not where my leak is... The portion you describe connects a rubber hose to the first metal portion of the metal smog tubes that blow air in the manifold

My leak spot is kinda under truck, passenger side where metal smog tube is connected to manifold by a nut...

I am thinking of letting the guy weld the small leak. If I am going to one day overhaul the motor and go with headers, it shouldn't be a issue as I am going to do away with the stock exhaust manifold correct? I should not experience any issue removing? I could just break or cut the pipe then remove the exhaust manifold without added issues that I created by welding leak?
