Trying to reassemble this after a year. Doesn't look right to me. Does the cut end of the adjustment nut sit up against the washer like this????????

 

Nope I would flip it around. I see you have a book, the book doesn't help?

 

The book has it the way I do but it's hard to tell how it sits against the washer. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I just don't get the funcion of that nut. It seems to spin freely like a regular nut. So why the cuts??

Thanks, I have the same looking rod on it since it's a 4 speed. I will refresh my memory tonight. I just think I flipped mine over because I thought the fatter part of the nut should be up against the washer.

I did mine just like yours is and just like it shows in your book. I got the flashlight out and checked.

 

Thanks. I Put it together like that. I think that nut is designed so you can squeeze the tab that lines up with the groove on the rod. At least that's what I did and it seemed to lock the nut in place.
One thing that did surprise me was that I installed a new clutch (even though the old one was hardly used) but had to adjust the nut way back to take the slack out of the pedal. I was expecting the opposite.
Could it be just a different combo of clutch and throw-out bearing just sets up in a different position?
