Dropping the oil pan

Hello,

I am trying to drop my oil pan on my 318, 1974 Plymouth duster. We rebuilt the motor but I am not getting any oil pressure and I am lead to believe that the oil pump may be hooked up incorrectly. I was thinking I could take off the steering linkage underneath and the exhaust, instead of pulling the whole damn thing out once again. But I can't find the information on how to pull it off, I am sure I can look for a Haynes book but I thought I would try the Mopar forums first. If worst comes to it, I can just hoist the engine out again but I would sure like to avoid unplugging everything if I can get away with this.

Drop the exhaust, loosen the center link and raise the engine about three inches. Slide it out to the rear. You may need to turn the crank for weight clearances

Just throwing this out there due to the fact it was something I found out with mopar engines and also I'm not sure on the 318 but my 383 needed to be primed to get oil pressure back. Just a thought to possibly save you time of oil pan etc..

So, we figured out that it was not the oil pump but am currently brainstorming to figure out what else it could be. If anyone has suggestions on what would stop my engine from getting oil pressure, I am open to all thoughts.

I can tell you that we rebuilt the engine and replaced almost everything, I am 99% confident in my engine re-builder since he does this for a living and is sponsored by many companies. Regardless, sometimes we are human after all.

Are you not getting ANY oil pressure? Will the engine not prime with a priming tool and electric drill?

Check the;

Oil pressure gauge and gauge line?

Oil pump pickup height? It may be too close to the oil pan?

My apologies, let me clarify a little more. I am getting oil pressure, oil came out of the carb and as far as I know it is going through the oil pump inside the oil pan. I have a mechanical oil pressure switch on the back of the block that is attached to a selifan hose that leads to the meter.

I am assuming that I should be seeing oil coming up through that tube, but I am getting no readings at all and no oil or pressure through that tube.

Sorry if I am talking out of my ***, I only know so much about cars, my friend who rebuilt my engine is actually helping me with putting my car back together but he is limited to mechanical knowledge since he mainly focuses on engine rebuilding. He knows enough information about cars to put them back together if he took it apart, but sadly he did not take apart and so we have to problem solve a lot of things on the car, even though this is besides the point.

We just came upon this yesterday and he told me him and his father would try and brainstorm some ideas on what could be possibly wrong with it. I thought I would try and reach out to people that may have had this kind of problem before and what are some solutions.

The oil system is very simple. IF you get no oil pressure ? Maybe someone forgot to install the pickup tube..
I would take the oil filter off and see if it has any oil in it.. Maybe install a new filter pre filled with oil, and prime the system with a drill and hex tool
