Fuel Pump shooting gas out of the side

I have a 1966 Plymouth Fury III, and When I went to start it today, the fuel pump began spewing gas out of the side of it. Do I need a new pump or is this another system making my pump do this?

Sounds like you need a new pump. I assume you checked the rubber fuel line & filter ??

Replace the pump, and CHANGE THE OIL. It's very common for this to happen, and for fuel to flood the oil pan. In my lifetime, I've seen one car that blew off one valve cover and the oil cap, and WITNESSED a Ferd starting up outside of a cafe, blew open the oil pan with a crankcase explosion.

Thank you, I will change the oil and pump, before the next time I run the engine. Thanks for the replies!

Wouldnt worry so much about a bang! But the gas can seriously wash-down the motor and add thousands of miles of wear to the rings and bearings. I had an issue once where the carb leaked, with no vent in the tank. It pushed nearly a gallon of fuel into the oil pan while sitting due to heat-expansion.
