got me a 318 block for the dart. got some questions

i picked up a 1973 318 last week and im debating on puttin it in the dart. which means the slant 6 is available again. (hint hint). but im lookin for some ideas as to what i should do with it. ive heard alot of people say its possible to bore it all the way up to a 340 but id be losing alot of cylinder wall. got some ideas? also what trans would mount up to it right? and what rear end would be best? mainly just a street car but i want her to have some ***** too. and btw just send me a PM if your interested in a 12000 mile slant six 225.

Starting at the front
V8 radiator
You need shumacker engine mounts for the swap or a V8 K menber
Trans swap preferable to a 727
New drive shaft
Swap to an 8 3/4 rear diff
Headers are a nightmare on a 64 Dart

put 340 camshaft into the 318 leave 2 barrel and try the engine out first. If your car is push button find a transmission a 904 or 727 is good for a regular car.

I cant give away slant 6 engines so good luck most of them end up going for scrap.

You could buy a Stroker kit for 370 or 390 c.i.

How about a D.I.Y. cast manifold crossover blow through turbocharger engine.

Maybe just a good tune and 250 h.p. would be fun in a little car too.

thanks guys! well ive been researching and studying and researching some more and i got off the phone with a friend of mine back in mi. hes got pretty much everything i need on the shelves. im gonna do a hot cam in the 318 with 360 heads, up the compression a bit and have the heads ground slightly, do a .050 bore job, 4 barrel alluminum mopar intake, marine double sprocket timing chain and all that'll have a 727 torqueflite on the back of it. gotta try to find an A-body 8 3/4 rear end and go from there. wish me luck! if anyone knows where i can find the proper headers i can make fit that'd be great.

The 63-66 engine compartment is smaller than the 67-up A body That is why headers are a headache Some nice flowing Magnaum ex manifolds may work better
I would look to see what TTI offers for headers if you must.
DON'T bore it any more than needed

lol, i thought the same thing. .050?

that sounds like a great build; engine should be nearing 400 horse if everything goes together smoothly.

why not go to a 360

If your going to go thru all work of punching a block .040 over and buying pistons. why not just go to a 360. If your installing a big cam in your 318/340 your losing streetablity. It doesnt take a whole lot to make a good running 360, just a good cam, intake, carb and good exhaust.

gee i think a 727 & 8 3/4 will hold you back a fair bit . if you can't afford all the good bits right now in stead it sitting around for ages & not going anywhere . why don't you use as much as you got now & get er rumblen . i'd go a 904 & mildly up graded std diff for now . unless you got heaps of & heaps of time & mates . it's better having a running 250 hp cruizer then a not moving money pit . there's good little lunati & comp cams extreme energy hyd cams that will really wake that 318 up & maybe a set of indy aerohead 318 heads just for now $400 ready to go . get your headers & twin 2 1/2" exhaust , radiator , new filter for the 904 & new seals & bearings & lap of your std diff for now . with a open center you'll brake traction over braking the diff .
