Help Identifying 1967 gtx 440

Hi all

i am purchasing a 1967 gtx this week and the owner claims that the dissasembled 440 that comes with the car is the original engine but for the price i am paying i would doubt it. Anyway, if it was a chev i would check the vin stamp, builddate/engine type stamp, casting number, etc.

Does my 440 have a partial vin stamp? if so where is it located?

Does a 440 have a builddate/engine type stamp ? if so where is it located?

What would the casting number be?

Thanks in advance for the answers or the link to a read me !!

Ben

The vin stamp should be stamped on the block. It sould be on the ear by the starter visible from the bottom. It should also be stamped on the machined pad on the block just behind the water pump C440 HP. The head casting numbers should end in 915 and be a closed chambered head as aposed to 1968 and later 906 casting.

I'm not expert on casting no's, etc, but you should be able to find enough to date the block. Also, a 67 HP 440 out of a GTX should have ONLY the "legendary" "915" casting no. heads

How about stuff like the carb (carb no) casting no. off the intake, and dist. no?
