High oil pressure
Hello guys, I still have problems with my magnum 390 stroker, I have the oil pressure is too high and I can not figure out the cause, to 1000 RPM i have 58 psi to 5000 RPM i have 87 psi
after testing the engine for a day leaking oil from the oil filter bracket
I use an oil pump Melling M-72HV High-Volume for Mopar small block LA my engine blocks is 318 Magnum could this be the problem?
use a 5-Quart Oil Pan and 5W 40 oil

Those numbers are not that high.. Remember this is a High volume pump !!! What is the pressure when Hot
Yes you should use a 7 qt oil pan or get a stock pump
I had an LA 360 with HV pump I had similar numbers and it was fine.... I ruined the bearings when I ran it hard and sucked the stock pan dry

Hot pressure is needed, yes. Can you give us your crank and rod bearing clearances. If you have larger than stock clearances then a larger pan with HV pump would be warranted.
With the HV pump and larger volume of oil circulating you are also helping with cooling the engine as long as you have that larger pan.
Trying a different oil filter is something I would try before taking the pan off.

I can not mount an oil pan from 7q because I have little space, this engine is mounted on a jeep
the pressure is the same even when the engine is warm, this thing I do not understand
the loss of oil from the filter is caused by this much pressure?
I don't remember in the central hole where I did the yellow arrow is missing a gasket?
I've mounted in the filter support only the outer gasket
at this point I think I put a original oil pump , because this engine will also be used in steep slopes and I would not be without oil

Yes the pan is to small..You should be running a 7 qt. or larger pan. OR go back to the stock oil pump... The Oil pump you are running also maybe a high pressure pump alot of times they are marketed High volume/high pressure so you need to be careful when purchasing pumps...Bill

The picture you sent looks like the gasket is torn to the right of the arrow in the center hole and this will cause to much pressure in the outer part of the filter causing the o-ring gasket to leak...Bill

Yes, this central hole needs a gasket. Usually a thick cork crushable gasket will come in the gasket set.
I do not believe a high volume pump will fit a stock oil pan(without massaging the oil pan with a hammer)?

well, tomorrow I try to reassemble the pump and the original pan
that's a picture I found on the internet, it was just to make me understand
I do not have a central hole in the gasket mounted
I only have the big outer gasket
I miss the gasket should I put against the block?

Yes...Use the large Gasket between the oil filter plate and the block...

I would use a fiber washer for the small gasket !!!! That's all I have ever used, what I have found in gasket kits. In order to seal it needs to be TIGHT. IT may over torque a cork gasket !!! IF the center bolt is not tight the big gasket will leak
