Intake plate

Not sure but I think its the choke stove. The factory carb automatic choke coil would fit in the hole beneath the plate. Its where the coil would get heated to eventually open the choke. That plate over the hole may not be original.

Called Automatic Choke Well that is open to the heat crossover passage and exhaust gases, needs to be covered. Factory has a gasket then a Stainless Steel Cup that drops in to make a spot for the Thermostatic Coil Spring to fit into. From the spring is a rod that moves up and down to actuate the choke dependent on temperature.

It's not EGR, it is in fact the choke well. I don't remember them being open to the crossover either, but maybe the manifold eroded through and leaked?

Great thanks, from what you told me I was able to find what the automatic looks like and it appears I can block that off if I want? I haven'e use electric chokes for not a need for most of the time, however I may look at it when this build goes. Again thanks Joe.
