Meth injected 440?
Anybody out there running water/methanol injection? talkin to a friend about it and he said i could run a little more compression with my 452 heads without having to go aluminum. Its a .040 440 452 heads and the .509 .292 cam. how much compression or timing advance could I gain with this?

i have been wanting to that for a long time. i have seen a number of sites showing how to do this. one was very good. but have seen people say that a water only injection can damage the pistons if to much water is used. if methanol is not to expensive i would tend to do that only. and start out with low amounts at first. i will try to find the site that was so good and post back here.

I would like to run 10.5:1. Ill be using 3.91 gears out back with a 3000rpm stall converter. The only reason im curious about the water injection is because I could just port the heads I have and not have to buy new ones. (Im young and dont make a lot of money) I can get 93 at the pump by my house and if need be theres a station by the speedway about 20 mins away that I could get 110 but thats expensive.

My 2 cents are....
10.5.1 CR...You will be ok with 93 Octane fuel... Just get the rite Combution quench. Go with the Lunti Cam.. It carries better vacuum. But if you like the 509 cam, you should still be ok... Max timing curve 43* total all in by 2500-2800RPM

If it already has the 10.5.1 pistons in it.... ????
Lightly port the head... Just clean up the Floor of the heads.
Shave 5 or 10 off the head. put a thin shim gasket
Install the 509...
Let it rip !!!!
Keep us posted on what you do....
Have fun..

Well funny story. I built this engine with my grandfather when I was 16 for my first car. I didnt do enough research and didnt know the later 70s blocks were low compression. It only has about 8:1 right now. Thats why I was curious about raising the compression on iron heads. My plan is to get a forged crank ly rods and new pistons. I was thinking about ross pistons but I dont have the experience to know what exactly I should go with.

Well... Here is my suggestion... I would do a street stroker kit. Being in Ind. Hit up Mike at MRL Performance.. He has a great Stroker kit for the 440's.. At least call and talk to him...
You can use your 452 for now, and Upgrade Later when Funding happens to get a little better. But the bottom end will be solid. Just be careful, If you go Aluminum heads it will raise the C.R. 1 point. But the Aluminum heads are a little more forgiving when it come to knocking...
Once you get the Machine work done. You know.. Block to see where the bore is going to be and the core shift straightened out and the line bore taken care of... You will know what pistons and kit to order... Hit mike up and chat about a kit... You wont be sorry... Shipping should not be to bad coming from that end of the Country....
Just food for thought...
