New to Mopar , Intake question before wasting $

Hey everyone I just bought my 1st Mopar it is an 82 shortbed 150 , 318 , cam (pretty lopey) don't know specs though but have brakes , edelbrock 600 , orig. Torker 1 360 intake (that's whats stamped on it) , 360 heads ? (not sure) , Mopar orange box ignition , 883 4 on the floor , 8 1/4 LS 3.23 , Now on to the question , The intake is specd 2500-6500 and isn't daily driver friendly , unless my foot is in it it isn't really driveable and loads up at lights , I want to change the intake for more of a street friendly driver and am confused as to what intake to use ? , How do I know what heads I have 318 or 360 ? what manifold will bolt up ? supposedly the Torker 1 360 only works with 360 heads ? I was thinking Edelbrock Performer idle - 5500 but if it wont bolt up what are my choices ? Sorry so long for a 1st post , Thanks in advance.

not knowing all the rest of the info... i'll shoot from what you told us....

get the head casting # and then you can find out what heads they are..318/360

***Just a note, what most folks are talking about is 360's have a large or a small intake port and if you put the small intake on the large port head, You have a leak and it runs like crap. once you get passed that...

I'm pretty sure it's the cam in the motor if the engine loads up at a light.

So Here is my 2 cents
Cam and lifters around 270* advertised.
Eddy performer intake with Mr gasket for sealing
Holley 650-750CFM vacuum sec...
Carter H.P. Mech. fuel pump

Works good with a low compression bottom end and Smog style 360 heads...

Just my 2 cents

Thanks racerhog , I fig it was the cam loading it up but the 2500-6500 Torker cant help down low for street driving , mash the throttle and she pulls hard through the gears so no problems there if that's the type of driving I was doing , Its not so not changing anything else what manifold is better for what I have ?

If you like the way it runs? Just put a little higher stall converter in the truck.
2800 should fit the bill... But dont be looking for gas mileage...
It's just those bigger cams dont like to idle down low for to long... They like to move air,,, Not sit on it.....lol

It is a 4 speed manual so no converter , I like the way it runs when your in it but not very driveable for daily street use and am trying to fix that , mileage don't matter its just a toy as I have other commuter vehicles.

Ooops... Now I remember you telling us that.... Went rite over the old head on the M/T A883....
I'm thinking a Holley might fit the bill a little better.... If you toss one on to try.
Or you just might have to recam it...

Check out mt Potobucket....I have some pics there.

I had to remove my Performer Manifold and install a case iron I had back on.
The crossover water passage eroatted and rotted out, and after fixing it 1 other time with Jb weld, i just put a case one back on for the mean while. I did pick up a new unused Performer for a $100.00 bucks. Just haven't takein time to put it on....lol

You just bought this? That is unfamiliar with it's history? What I'm getting at is do you know if it's an older (should be) LA or maybe someone swapped in a later Magnum. Easiest way I know of is to look at the intake manifold bolts, If they go in "angled" they are LA. If the are vertical, it's a Magnum

I concur, the Torker series is a TERRIBLE choice for a heavy vehicle, and low/ med power, and I - don't - know - why Ed ever named those things a "Torker" because "LackofTorquer" would have been more apt.

It is an LA as the intake bolts are angled , Yes I purchased this way and guy wasn't helpful in whats really in the motor , other than the usual bolt ons that you can see it def. has a pretty lopey cam as it barely will idle , need to change the intake first before I do anything else (it is driveable but not happy below 2000 rpm or so), doesn't smoke or leak and you can see all the new gaskets everywhere so I believe in the rebuild that he claims was done and it pulls hard to 6000 rpm.
