Exclamation POSSIBLE HYDROLOCK HELP!!!!!! 5.7 HEMI

Hello all, I'm writing this post for my brother in law. As some of you may know, southern California has been getting hit pretty hard with rain these past two weeks. My brother in law owns a 2016 dodge challenger R/T 5.7 hemi, everything about it is stock except for a exhaust he recently put on (carven exhaust). Our street tends to get really flooded during the rainy season and some might say not safe to drive on. His mother took his car to the store and when she returned home she drove thru a very flooded part of the street, as she was pulling into the drive way the car stalled and started to spew oil out from the bottom of the car. She then tried to start the car again and nothing happened. The car will not even turn over. As i popped the hood the first thing i checked was his air filter. As soon as i opened the air box i could immediately see that the air filter was drenched in water. We are stuck on what to do know. I don't believe its something that we can just take to the dealer and get fixed. I'd appreciate any information and help on this topic. Thanks in advance.

I would bet you have an aftermarket air filter/ cold air kit.....You could have broken a connecting rod, put a hole in the block/oil pan and dumped the oil out.. VERY expensive -- NEW ENGINE You can get the dealer to fix it Just be prepared to open your wallet very very wide. Other option is to trash your credit and let the bank re po it and walk away

Sounds like an insurance claim to me, call your agent.

So stop and don't mess with it have it towed to a dealer and go from there.

Agree with all

Hi, Mopar mechanic at DCH Chrysler,

I don't think there is much doubt that you got water in the engine and when it first fired, a cylinder hydro-locked up and threw a rod. Hopefully your insurance will cover the damage! Best of luck!
