Power Steering Presure
Power Steering Presure
Does anyone know how to lower the pressure in a Federal Power Steering Pump? Can you just change springs (as in GM products) if so how do I know what I have and what I need to get? The reason I am asking is: after a 100 mile trip (90% highway) I lost all of my fluid from my steering gear box. So I have refilled it and a week later (short trips) I am not leaking and have all of my fluid. Did the pump build up to much pressure, did t he pressure relief valve fail? I don't know what, help is needed. Thanks
Might check with Borgeson....

I don't know about specific pumps, but there is an article floating around called "pump it down"

my 1967 dart, charger factory service manual. shows 3 diff pumps. .94 pump 1.4 gal @ 500 RPM. .96 pump 2,5 to 3.0 gpm. 1.2 pump 1.75 to 2.25 GPM. i think the number .94, .96, 1.2 number stands for the cubic inchs per revolution. so if you times that by the RPM of the pump you have the GAL. but at very high speed this will drop off cause of the pressure regulation. and the top pressures range from 800 to 1100 PSI. depending on the pump and the body it is mounted in. the top line Furys go all the way to 1100 PSI. EDIT: and NO they will not let you make a log splinter.
