small block heads?

Okay i am learning that there are several types of factory heads on the small blocks. So what are the best factory heads and what years did they use them? I have nothing newer than a 91 3/4ton with a 360. and im not sure if its a mag or not. Thanks for any info!

For a 360 LA motor the cast 308 heads from 1989-1991 trucks are good heads. For a 318 with 318 intake the cast 302 closed chamber heads are hard to beat.

The best small block heads were the magnums. The flow, better oiling, light weight 8mm valve and closed chambers make them the choice for performance motors.

The magnum started in 1992. I have been told that there were some cross over motors that had the better heads in 91 but I've never seen one.

The Mag Heads are prone to cracking between the seats but that's easy to check.

In addition to Bremereric's recommendation look for older "J" castings heads which came with larger valves.
