Timing preference
What do you guys prefer: timing belt, chain or gear drive?
|
Timing chain. Gear drive is too noisy.
|
definitely a chain !!

All the above depending on application...

Thanks! I am going with a quiet chain.

Thanks! I am going with a quiet chain. Can't tell you if they are quiet or not, the engines usually make too much noise ... Archer |
Archer, who would you recommend for a manufacturer? What am I looking to spend on it?

I usually just stay with the company who made the cam when possible. Comp Cams, Cloyes, Edelbrock, Even Summit and Mopar have good sets. Billet sets might be a little better, but more pricey. Still given what you have in the engine, even the more expensive sets wouldn't be a bad investment. Archer |
Napa Auto Parts....

When getting a chain ,gear, belt consider its adjust-ability if you need to get that cam in a certain spot. There are only a couple of manufacturers in the game and many are just renames for different vendors. Same part... different box. The ones above are all good IMO.

You diffenetly want a double roller NOT a silent chain they have a tendency of stretching and can throw the cam timing off. Also they can jump time and do serious engine damage if they do jump...The cost difference is minimal between the two....Bill

Excellent. Thanks guys!

The thought of a timing belt makes me cringe! If I could take out and exchange for chain every vehicle I have had with a belt I would do it!
