tuning a edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb
I bought a 3/4 ton truck that has a Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb on it, also the original intake manifold was replaced with a non egr style intake. in order to get it to run with out predentonating the timing has to be way retarded, also the air idle mix screws if you turn one in or out it does nothing, the idle is only effected when the other idle mix screw is turned in or out. I tried riching the the mixture with a metering rod change on the primarys but the engine didnt like it all.
Ant suggestions?

cleaned carb
I cleaned my carbenator, removed the idle mixture screws and spray cleaner into them and blew some air thru orifices. also cleaned the air bleeds. removed the metering rods and soaked the wells with carb cleaner. None of this made any differance. it actualy ran worse. Iam going to **** can the Edelbrock and go with a Holley.

the Edelbrocks metering rods have the metering steps with to much difference. go buy the rod with the smallest step. and do NOT change both rod and jet at the same time. only change one at a time. cause if you change both at the same time you cant guess at what your change is. if you have to remove a jet it doesnt need to be put in with much force, just lite pressure. start by changing the rod first. then start changing the jets next. the stock float level is 7/32, but 5/16 works better. in the main casting is vent channel at the rear, that goes from one float chamber to the other. get some JB-weld to put a wall in the channel. the whole channel doesnt need to be blocked

Hi All,
New here, have a question. I have an Edelbrock 1406 carb on my 66 Sport Fury with a 383. My problem just started on a cruise a few nights ago. The car died coming to a stop and won't idle. It will stay running if I rev it and hold it but dies at idle. I have heard it may the idle mixture screws of maybe metering rods. but am stumped. Any help woud be appreciated before I do change the fuel pump.
Thanks for any help

I would prefer that you would start your own thread with your problems with your mopar instead of digging up an old thread. Your problem could be a plugged fuel filter, fuel pump or dirty carb. It’s unusual for a carb to unadjust itself going down the road.
