Vacuum something?
Vacuum something?
Just picked up a new ride. 1966 Plymouth Valiant. Slant 6 226, 1bbl Holley
Here is my question, what in the heck is this thing?
The threaded thing sticking out turns, like it is adjustable.
one vacuum hose goes to the exhaust, one goes to the carb, one goes to the distributor.
I have never seen one of these.
Can anyone help me out?

its a vaccumm controler. i forgot just what it does. find out how a earlyer model is set up without one. you might be able to retro fit it to a earlyer set up. it was onty for emissions. but the way the distributer is set up may be different inside. that is why my 25 different service manuals comes in handy.
You must have what was originally a California car, which had engine emission controls in 66, while the rest of us were executed in '68.
I can STILL hear the words of a local Chevy mechanic, standing around in a service station parking lot one night in the summer of 67, when everybody had the upcoming 68 emissions junk on their minds. You must "read" this with your nose pinched, because he had an annoying, high pitch voice:
"Ya, the public will NEVER put up with this #### there'll be rioting in the streets---people won't buy these car---etc etc etc."
And of course, people bought them and shut the 'ell up!!!!
The problem you people in AZ have is that there WERE NO AZ cars with any emissions (except PVC) before 1968. But that has NOT stopped your state legislatures from requiring emissions tests on earlier cars!!!!! You guys "down there" need to get your tails in gear and put pressure on your state lawmakers.

i thought what shrug said at first, but when i saw 440s post i think he is wright, its a "California car". my 1967 factory service manual does show two clear air packages, ie distributor, for the 170, and two for the 225. allso a non CAP verson. but it does NOT call them for Cal. it does show the 'distributor vacuum control valve adjustment' valve. and it has a way to adjust the vacuum going to the distributor. if it was mine i would ether plug it or leave it alone. but doesnt say the CAP was Cal. but i bet it is.
