vibration damper install

Been a long time since i have done an engine tear down.
What is the best way to install the vibration damper?

I remember using an install tool years ago but i do not know where to rent or buy it. What size is the hole in crank to attach the tool? this way ill know what to get unless they have a universal one?? does a 1969 273 engine even have this threaded hole?

does any one have a better idea? also whats the best way to stop the crank from spinning the heads are off.

thanks

I build them like the one I just did for my son's Ford. Take the bolt cut off the head and weld a wheel stud on the end. Some washers and lug nut pull it on. When you buy a bolt for the tool or to hold the damper ask for a grade 8.

If it is a stock type damper You should be able to just use a piece of 2x4 to protect the damper and give it a few wacks with a sledge The aftermarket some time fit tighter and then you need the tool. Try your local AutoZone or ?? They should have one to rent/borrow

Wow never mind don't need any advice like that.

Remembered how I used to do it and it worked great.
Pushed the damper on as far as it would go.
used my Vise grips that have bent handles, Clamped them to the Damper and just tighten the damper bolt, the bent handles hit the block. Took less then 2 minutes to seat it all the way!!!
