Water leak from intake.

So I was on the net looking for the best price for an Edelbrock Air Gap intake, ordered it and what I received was an off brand Procomp intake. Went back and looked where I purchased it and I need to pay more attention to descriptions when I buy things.

I went ahead and put it on finished up and when filling it back with water it was running out from the bottom driver side rear of the intake as fast as I was putting it in.

I bought the intake for a 340 which is what I was told was in the car when I purchased it. I changed the cam and lifters a couple months ago and didnt have any issues with the previous intake when I put it back after the cam swap.

This isnt my first intake swap and every thing looked like it matched up, but this is my first Mopar intake swap. Is there something about a Mopar that is different from other makes that I need to know?

If not what do you figure is going on?

Thanks for any replies!!

Should be a straight forward swap Unless the manifold doesn't fit properly A rejected return ???? Gasket slipped out of place, un likely ?

So after further inspection the Chinese Procomp intake does not have the hole for the dowel pin on the front or rear of the intake. I didnt notice it the first time I installed it because the front and rear gasket were so thick they covered the dowel pins.

I use spray adhesive on the front & rear cork gaskets and glue them to the block then a small bead of ultra rtv in the corners of the heads. Ive seen people put way to much rtv and cause leaks. Its like the old commercial for brillcream a little dab will do ya.

Some times when heads and block have been surfaced You can't use the cork end gaskets. Then a small bead of silicon is needed to replace the gasket. OR file the manifold ends for clearance

No U.S. built intakes have them, either. You need to use pliers or diagonal cutters to pull the pins out. "Test fit" the intake and look up under the front mating surface with a small mirror. Believe it or not, some of the Ed intakes don't fit well there at the corner near the head!!!!

I never use the front/ rear gaskets. I get everything ready and clean and dry. Lay a large bead of RTV front/ rear, set the intake in place and snug it down. After snugging down, use a towel to smooth the bead, and use a mirror, light, etc to insure that you have a good bead

If the deck or heads have been milled, this further creates manifold fit problems, regardless of what part of the world it was made

Thanks for that info, the Edelbrock I am replacing had the holes for the dowel pins so I just assumed the named brand products came with them.
