340 Roadrunner Transmission delima!

So, back in the day, 1984, my transmission failed on my 73 340 roadrunner, and it was replaced and i never thought twice about it until today when i decoded the numbers on it. come to find out the replacement that was put in is from a 69 or 70 dodge truck.

I know that parts are interchangable between 727 units, but who knows what torque converter is in it, and what else, but that will have to change anyway to handle a different stall for the engine.

My question, since i am starting a complete restoration of the car, would it make sense to just rebuild that existing transmission to match my engine build or just spring for a high performance aftermarket transmission?

Any advice, please let me know!
