727 rebuild or replace with used???

I've got a 727 Automatic transmission for my 77' Dodge B200 Tradesman Van. Bought the thing (not running) off craigslist for $200. Fixed the electrical and rebuilt the valve body. Everything works now except it can't Reverse and it drives in Neutral. I've tracked the problem down to stuck rear clutch plates (see my child-like diagram below). My conclusion is reinforced by the fact the car will lurch a bit if I press the gas in PARK, drives in NEUTRAL but only in first gear, and is completely stuck in REVERSE.

The question is, do I drop the transmission and replace the clutch plates (Rock Auto rebuild kit: ~$100) or just buy an used one for ~$450? The main issue is that I'm fairly busy and we're trying to get it ready for a road trip to Las Vegas in mid-October.

Thanks for any insight/recommendations!!

(NOTE: the green check marks indicate that the component should be engaged in that particular gear.)

Either way you have to remove the trans SO rebuild yours.. It is not that difficult if you have basic mechanical skills Get a repair book and JUST take pictures
lay things out as you remove them..

Ok, I agree. Just wanted to talk with someone before I make the plunge. BUT....

I've been looking at rebuild kits and there seems to be a discrepancy between Rockauto and what's inside my transmission. Rockauto rebuild kits only come with one band (reverse band)... So I went over to Whatever It Takes and their's only has one band (see below). However, mine has a front and a rear band as does Tom Hand's Guide to the Torqueflite, as does all the videos I've seen on youtube, as does the ATSG Technical Service Information PDF (see attached)

Any ideas??

usually you do not need to replace the other band That is why it does not come in the kit
