Does anyone know the difference between an 8 ¼ and 8 3/8read end?


After doing some research it looks like the 8 3/8 came in some trucks?


Is the ring gear diameter the only difference? Or is there a difference in the Diff?

Two totally different rears. There were lots of trucks/ Vans in the 60's early 70's that had a 8 3/4 along with thousands of other cars from the 60's 8 1/4 light duty trucks and the last of the rear wheel drive. The later trucks Most 1/2T & 3/4T had a 9 1/4
