A727 Trans massive leak.
I put a new trans pan and gasket but didnt know about the kick down seal now i've driven my fresh built 440 once like across the street to get gas and back and has a massive leak from that seal where the kick down lever is on the trans, I guess this is called a "Selector Shaft Seal"?
How hard is this going to be to replace with it in the car? What do I need to do?, taking the engine and trans out is out of the question seeing i'm moving soon and have no time to do this, car needs to be running for a transport company. its a big leak too drips every 1-2 seconds. this is in a 1964 imperial btw.
Its confirmed coming from the kick down arm i wiped the pan off and everything aroudn the arm and i can see it flow from the bottom of the arm after about 1-2 seconds, its a flow too not a drip.

Pretty easy fix. It seems to me buy your description that whoever did the trans omitted the shaft seal. Drain the trans and drop the valve body out. Check that the selector shaft mount on the valve body is not shot. If the shaft has a lot of wiggle you need a new valve body. if the shaft is ok then look for the seal up thru the bottom. If it's even there then it's shot but I bet it's missing. If it's there then just get a screwdriver and hammer, catch it at it;s edge and drive it up and out. Install new seal with some appropriate flat washers on top and bottom and a bolt and nut thru the middle to pull it straight down into the bore. Reinstall the valve body, fill it and go.

I'm not sure I think your 64 has a cable operated shiftier so pay attention when you take it apart. Also get an extra seal just in case. You also need a big C clamp and a socket to press the seal in. Use a 1x2 or what ever is handy across the pan to support the board/ C clamp. May need to lower the rear of the trans..

Hey 64 Imperial, This is not an uncommon issue with the older torqueflights. In fact, a few people have made videos about it:
. You can probably replace that seal yourself if you take your time. RC Enterprises is probably correct that if the trans was recently rebuilt, the seal might be missing. In any case, get a new one and carefully press it in. Tom - Mechanic at Waldorf Dodge
