Transmission Cooler With Fan

Good Evening Everyone

I need to install a transmission cooler c/w fan, that will be responsible for 100 percent of my 727 transmission'a cooling requirements. My 440 is expected to generate around 425 HP and will be driven the odd weekend, seeing little or no abuse... well maybe the odd smoke show, lol.

I am currently looking at:

Flex-A-Lite's Transmission Cooler c/w Fan #45951, and
B&M's Transmission Cooler c/w Fan #70297

wanting to install the unit to front passenger side of the radiator bulk head
so as not to interfere with existing Flex-A-Lite radiator & elec. fan's air flow, so size is a factor. I have no idea which one is quieter or more reliable.

I have seen a couple of other vendors that are offering transmission coolers at a much greater cost, that no doubt could keep a rookie trucker's tranny stone cold -pulling a 8 percent grade over a distance of 10 miles, but rather suspect that I don't need any where near that kind of transmission cooling.

Can anyone having experience with this type of HP Transmission Cooler share your thoughts in terms of just how much transmission cooling i really need to keep this old 727 alive and well, for the next few years?

If you can route the transmission cooler lines through the radiator first, then to the cooler w/fan that will be all you need.
I know this because that's how I cool my transmission. It doesn't go higher than 180 on a typical day. I don't use a cooler with fan. I use just a cooler and a extra 2 quart deep transmission pan from tci.

Thanx Inri, but the problem is, my new Flex-A-Lite Radiator does not have the transmission cooling tank at the bottom, as do the original mopar tanks, so... I am unable to route trans cooling lines through the radiator first & then to an auxiliary trans. cooling unit, as normally done when needing a little extra cooling.

I have the Flex-A-Lite Black Magic X-treme 15" reversible fan and shroud set-up as a pusher in front of the radiator at the moment and I am in need of a separate transmission cooler c/w fan - that will ultimately be responsible for (100 percent) of my trans. cooling needs.

I have no room between the backside of the radiator and the serpentine pulley systems to mount a transmission cooler, so it must be a fan system mounted else where. The size v.s. capacity and reliability of such transmission coolers are what I need a little advise on and I was hoping someone in the forum has dealt with this particular issue before or as some sage advise on which vendor to go with, example: one brand being quieter or more reliable than another. Thanx again thou, for your comment.

after you clean the trans. add this to your*chrysler*trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com
2. for other sizes wix 58964 5/16 tube size

Yes Don't use reg fuel line. If you can't find transmission hose Use fuel injection hose

Well, I have selected the Perma-Cool: Transmisson Cooler & fan plus the Thermal Control Unit, but remain undecided when it comes to the Oil Filter mount. The cooler requires -6AN femaile fittings to what ever hose I should choose. I am thinking a -6AN braided steel hose, would be a good match all the way back to tranny with an oil filter on the return line low and to the drivers side of the oil cooler and rad. The input/output ports on the oil filter mount are in question. Should I use (AN to NPT) adapters from the -6AN hose through 1/2 inch ports on the oil filter mount or should I go with smaller ports on the oil filter mount, which when you factor in the need to use smaller inner diameter fittings, these 2 restrictions in the return line, may do more harm than good. I am leaning toward the 1/2 inch ports. What do you think?

on that remote mount oil filter, run the oil into the outside of the filter, an from the center of the filter to the in of the trany. oil flow in to filters is outside to inside so if the filter colapess to falls in on its self and doesnt flow into the engine
