Hi i was wondering, is there any alternative car chassis that could be used to build a 1970 charger from? Like would any b body car from that year work? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info but i was looking more along the lines of if i could buy a 1970 belvedere, satellite, coronet or any other b body car and swap the body panels out with those of the 1970 charger. Im not concerned with retail value I just want a bit of a running project i could work on and make it mean something to me

I think it's gonna depend on how much fabrication you're willing to do. The Chrysler uni-body construction is great for manufacturing, but does limit your options. And no, I've never tried swapping out body panels, so I can't really say what will fit on what, but I'd guess that something would need to be modified.

Yeah archer I kind of figured no one has...maybe i guess I'll just have to be the first lol it'll take a while to find the right car though. Ill have to do some research about what cars have interchangeable parts as i know some did back then

 

as long as they are in the same body family a-a b-b all the removable parts should interchange its when you start crossing breeding the chassis that u got to do some serious altering
i would say the hardest thing is roofs and rear 1/4 s every thing else is just bolt on cosmetics

 

I don't know why you'd even want to do this. If you have a charger with a good front clip and good rear quarters and rear panel, etc, not to mention the doors, which have different outer skins, you've probably already got a good chassis

But the big thing is, "when" you get done, you'll have a VIN that identifies the car as a Coronet, Plymouth Satellite, or whatever. The whole thing will never be worth much for resale.

WHY do you want to do this? I cannot imagine that you have a car with "all the good stuff" up front and in the rear and that suddenly needs a new unibody??

 

I wanna do this because finding another b body car for sale in good condition is way cheaper than finding a 1970 charger in good condition. The chargers are just insanely expensive. I'd rather make this work than getting a 1970 charger that needs a full & complete restoration. I haven't seen a rolling chassis cheaper than 7 grand. I'm also not worried about resale value at all. Ill lose my house before I'd lose my car. Oh and I dont have a charger that's why I asked the question.

my brother and I would clone a car any day of the week if we had the chance
if you think about it some of these mopars are worth alot of money and thats some thing that is very risky to drive around town down the highway across the county but a clone is expendable way more than a rare collectors car

the amount of work you will have to put into do this... its going to be like a full Restoration... off the bat your talking quarters, tail light panels, roof, trunk skin, doors, fenders, hood and prob some frame work also, you will only be keeping the floors and front uni body... that just my opinion i wouldn't cut up a good car for it. just my 2 cents
